In order to qualify as an ADI, the DSA requires successful completion of three different tests. The tests cover your theoretical knowledge of driving and hazard awareness, driving skills and instructional ability.
Part 1 Examination - Theory
This examination consists of two sections and consists of 100 multiple choice questions. The 100 multiple choice questions are split into categories of road procedures.
There is also an additional section on hazard perception.
Part 2 Examination – Testing your driving ability
This part will consist of a one hour practical test, where you will be asked to drive and demonstrate that you are able to drive to a high standard.
The examination will consist of general driving, motorway driving and a number of manoeuvres will need to be carried out.
Part 3 Examination - Testing your ability to instruct
This part will again consist of a one hour examination.
However on this occasion the examination will be conducted in two sections. The examiner will play the role and act the part of a pupil with little driving experience, and then play the role of a pupil with a more advanced level of experience.
